Twitter For “Fine Aged Wine’s”, Third Installment

Twitter Bird from designkode

Twitterpated? Relax. You Don’t Have to Know Everything.

This is the third installment in my series about using Twitter, aimed primarily at people like myself, living in the “Fine Aged Wine” zone (that is, over 50). I liken my approach to the old radio show “News Read Real Slow”, because I know that there are a lot of people who are just getting started, and the last thing you want me to do is bombard you with new and confusing technical terms.  Something happened the other day which highlighted this approach for me. I was chatting with one of my “guru’s”, and he happened to mention a term with which I was unfamiliar. I had to stop and make a decision. Go ahead and admit my ignorance, and maybe learn something new, or ignore it. I realized at that moment that, although I think I’m picking up a lot of information in a short time, that the technologies related to the social media experience just keep racing along. Sometimes I feel that they are leaving me in the dust. So, in response, I did three things:

How Important Is Your Website to Your Audience

Website Importance
Website Importance

Today I got a chance to view one of the latest posts from David Siteman Garland who also runs and operates TheRiseToTheTop.com Actually to be quite honest it’s one of the main reasons that I decided to write this post before the end of the day was over.  How Important Is Your Website to Your Audience? – You tell me!  The Web 2.0 era and soon web 3.0 is only expanding and will get to a point where we won’t be able to live without it in day-to-day communication and operations.  There are many websites out there that are utilizing all marketing channels such as Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIN and aren’t seeing results that they had expected.

Take Internet Explorer 9.0 (BETA) for a Test Drive

Internet Explorer 9.0

As Microsoft nears the fourth release of Internet Explorer 9.0 on September 15, 2010 the jig is up.  The competition for a top performing browser has been on-the-run for some time as powerhouse giants such as Google Chrome, Mozilla FireFox, & Apple’s Safari are dominating the market.  Consumers are in a dying need of a browser that can perform well on the web and mobile devices.  The chances of exceeding those expectations are, well…..not quite there yet sadly to say.  Although Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.0 claims to deliver industry leading functionality with its official upcoming release of the IE 9.0 on September 15, 2010.  While I was out and about on the web scoping out the hidden potential I came across this good find and thought I’d share with you fine folks (You, the reader!).

Remain Cautious of FireFox 3.5.11

FireFox 3.5.11 Bookmarks Issues

Recently I created a new blog post about the comparison of all top web browsers that are available on the web.  This particular one actually pertains to remaining cautious of FireFox 3.5.11 and how it has royally screwed up my desktop.  Well, I shouldn’t quite say “royally” as some may get offended by the language.  Although it has now been about a week since I upgraded to FireFox 3.5.11 and yet to find a trace of my long lost bookmarks.  That’s right folks!  I’ve lost approximately two years worth of bookmarked pages and resource information due to this upgrade.  This is one of those times that I’ll probably get a response on this post stating something along the lines of “Why not use an online service to store your bookmarks?” Exactly!  Why didn’t I use an online bookmarks storage service?

I’m Over 50;You Want Me to Tweet. What’s In It For Me?

There are many people offering free Twitter icons. I like this one.

Hi. This is Laurie again. Allow me to digress for just one blog post. In our last conversation, we established that we’re all wonderful “fine aged wines” over here on the better side of 50, and that we’re now a force with which to contend in social media networking. But I know you’re dying to ask me a question. “Why start with Twitter?” you ask. “Isn’t that sort of counter-intuitive for someone whose brain is slowing down—like you, Laurie? For goodness sake, some days you can’t even find your keys. How do you expect to keep up with the mad swirl of activity that a Tweetchat can become?” Yes, I’ll admit you have a point. I’ll have to admit that when I’m in the middle of a chat that’s truly cooking, it sometimes feels as though I’m in the middle of a cocktail party on steroids. It’s like being dragged through a maelstrom, trying to catch and react to as many ideas as possible, before they disappear into the deep dark hole of distant Twitter history, which is about 2 seconds ago. (by the way, that is exactly why I use plug-in’s such as , Tweetchat, which I mentioned in the last blog and Tweetdeck , which I can mention later if you ask me to.) Of course, the simple answer is that it’s my favorite social media format. Period. I do, however, have four reasons that I use to explain (or justify) its fascination for me:

Problems with Disqus Comment System for WordPress

Disqus Comments for WordPress

When it comes to an advanced comment system there isn’t one that beats Disqus Comments. It offers a fully scaled comment system that integrates 100% with the web. It has become my personal favorite and frankly not quite sure how I’ve managed without it previously.  A built in enhanced system lets you track your activity across multiple websites on the internet.  Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, & LinkedIN are a big part of this impressive application and it makes it extremely easy to use.  The integration between your blog/website content and these social media platforms is flawless.  Point and click, boom goes up your content.
